The diagnostic value of crush preparation cytology of endoscopic biopsy samples from gastroesophageal malignancies was studied with the aim to evaluate accuracy of this new technique and comparison with that of conventional histopathology. The accuracy of crush cytology as compared to biopsy was 96.08%. Correlation of cytological and histopathological subtypes was found in 95.92%. The crush cytology is very important diagnostic technique as it expedites the work up of patients. It gives positive yield even if biopsy specimen contains some representative material but insufficient material for definite histological categorisation. This technique can be a useful adjunct to the two conventional methods of endoscopic biopsy and brush cytology.
